Characteristics

Dyslexia can manifest itself in many different ways. Following are some, but not all of these ways:

Dyslexia
Reversal of letters and numbers
Reading things backwards
Not seeing punctuation marks
Difficulty reading different styles of type
Difficulty hearing or saying speech sounds
Omissions of words while reading, or choppy reading
Inserting or substituting words when reading
Inconsistencies between potential and performance
Headaches, dizziness, stiff neck, etc. when reading
Feels "stupid", has poor self esteem

Dysgraphia
Writing words backwards
Writing letters out of order or reversing letters and numbers
Excessively poor handwriting
Difficulty writing in sequence or making sense of the order of sentences
Lots of spelling errors, wrong sequence of letters in words
Difficulty with punctuation and other details of writing
Inability to write curved or diagonal lines

Acalculia or Discalculia
Inability to perform simple math problems
Reversals of numbers
Difficulty in remembering sequencing in math problems
Difficulty in remembering simple math facts
Difficulty in remembering formulas or definitions in math calculations

Attention Deficit Disorder: ADD - ADHD (an estimated 6 - 10% of the population is ADD or ADHD)
Inability to pay attention for very long
Seems not to hear or listen
Disorganized, does not follow through or finish projects
Misses details in instructions, difficulty following directions
Easily distracted
Fidgety, agitated, restless, moving constantly, overly active
